First Methodist Church of Pascagoula is a vibrant, growing congregation, especially in the area of young families with children.  We are happy to announce the position of Director of Family Ministries as a full-time ministry opportunity.  This person will be charged with helping children live out their developmentally-appropriate faith, grow in their discipleship and progress toward taking responsibility for their Baptism through Confirmation.  This includes partnering with parents of the children to help them minister more effectively to their children.  This individual will report to and assist the Senior Pastor with associated duties.  Finally, this person will collaborate with the Learning Center Director to help to facilitate “chapel” services and other faith development aspects of the Learning Center.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, develop and otherwise supervise staff, lay leaders and volunteers regarding all matters involving Children’s Ministries

  • Create opportunities for service by recruiting and training others with the ability to delegate  

  • Through collaborative team leadership with this Children’s Council, develop a calendar of ministries and events related specifically to children

  • Assist the Learning Center to clarify, strengthen and leverage the scope and sequence of curricula used with that of the children’s ministry of the church  

  • Oversee selection and implementation of curricula, with a healthy understanding of how the curricula makes disciples and how one year connects to the next 

  • Coordinate Sunday and/or Wednesday children’s ministries from nursery through 6th grade  

  • Ensure high-quality, safe and organized nurseries, and a quality worship experience for older children

  • Train and equip parents to shoulder the main responsibility of growing and raising their children in a biblical manner

  • Plan, resource and implement annual events including, but not limited to, Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas program, Children’s Sabbath, and Confirmation 

  • Communicate the church’s approved safety policy to all Children’s Ministry staff, lay leaders and volunteers, regularly evaluate its use and take necessary steps to implement the policy

  • Maintain a consistent flow of communication about the church’s Children’s Ministry through flyers, social media, website, etc., while maintaining a healthy web presence

  • Develop a Children’s Ministry budget of general and fund-raised dollars, have the budget approved by the Finance Committee, and ensure proper oversight of said budget through controls such as credit card logs and personal record-keeping

  • Assume responsibilities in other ministry areas that intersect with your particular gifts and graces, such as tech/social media, Sunday morning worship services or small group ministries

  • Work with co-workers, lay leaders and volunteers to integrate all areas managed into our church-wide vision and mission

  • Assimilate new members, identifying places for them to grow in discipleship and places for them to serve as disciples

  • Assist the Senior Pastor with various tasks that arise from time to time

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding personal information

  • Availability to assist staff and parishioners as needed

  • Properly screen leaders and volunteers to ensure the safety of our staff, congregation and guests

Accountability

  • Senior Pastor, as primary supervisor

  • Church leadership to ensure Children’s Ministries fit within the vision and mission of the church

  • SPRC for bi-annual evaluation, continuing education, self care and parish relational needs for the Senior Pastor

Time Commitment

40 hours per week to be shared among church office hours (Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 1:30pm),

Learning Center hours (Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm), Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Compensation
